I think I’m going to have to quit the teaching profession

I’ve been a teacher for more than twenty five years.

  • It’s safe to say that I’ve had ups as well as downs with it… I like teaching and helping kids learn, but the educational system seriously does not prioritize the safety of its teachers as well as staff! There are several elements when thinking about the safety of a school.

One thing that’s often overlooked is the health of clean, high quality air. We are always stuck in a room with more than twenty-two students, so even though every one of us are used to germs, it’s still imperative that our a/c equipment is up to quality standards. I heard a rumor from an older teacher who works there that the air ducts hadn’t been cleaned in years. This sounded really dumb to me. I knew that the air ducts should be cleaned pretty often. The air ducts experience a lot of build up, and sometimes small creatures as well as critters can climb in there or even die if there are pesticides in there. I decided to ask the office administration to see the A/C repair history. I saw that the last air duct cleaning was several years prior. So I called the Superintendent. They came out right away to speak with our principal about our air quality standards. They had the Heating, Ventilation, as well as A/C contractor come to the school to start cleaning the air ducts. It took them about a week to finish the entire cleaning of the air ducts. I’m considering leaving the education field. I just don’t like the way they treat us.
