There is so much to learn when you move from one place to another.
That’s made all the more interesting when you are going from one region to another where the climate is radically different.
Then add in the fact that this is the first move I’ve ever made and it’s a lot to take in. I don’t think I had ever seen a boiler, an oil furnace, a gas furnace or any other heater than a heat pump. So I was in for a bit of an education when it came to new HVAC equipment and serious heaters. Where I came from, all I had to do was flip the thermostat to heating and the heat pump did the rest. And our winters were so mild that I didn’t have to do that all that often. That is not the case in my new house. Thankfully, I have an HVAC professional that was kind enough to help me out. I sought him out to help when I was buying the place I’m living. I wanted him to check out the gas furnace to be sure I wasn’t missing something. It checked out fine. And the HVAC professional really explained the differences in heating when you are dealing with months of sub freezing temperature. He also helped me understand just how to make sure the house is prepared for winter. It’s not just up to the heating method to keep our house warm. I have to play an active role by ensuring our house is tight and insulated. This keeps the valuable HVAC treated air on the inside and the cold air on the outside.
